EVENT HISTORY

In 1988 having organised a number of celebrity football matches at Welshpool, Alan Crowe decided to change sport and organised a celebrity golf event at St Giles Golf Club, Newtown in aid of the then Shropshire & Mid Wales Hospice now Severn Hospice.

The main sponsor of the day was local builders merchants - Boys & Boden.

Celebrities that took part included - Jackie Turpin (Boxer), Reg Bennett (Comedian), Bill Roache (Actor), Lloyd & Anderson (Cabaret Duo), Ala Cra (Entertainer), Norman Rossington (Actor), Berni Flint (Entertainer), Jet Harris (The Shadows), Colin Young (Radio Shropshire), Baz Weaver (Comedian), Brian Mayo (Handicapped golfer), Royston Jones (Singer), Phil Kelly (Comedian),

Since then Alan has arranged celebrities to play golf all over the UK - Melton Mowbray, Buxton, Rhos on Sea, Whitchurch, Wolverhampton, Bridgnorth, Llanidloes to name a few.

To mark the 25th Anniversary of that first event at Newtown on Sunday 15th September 2013, he organised an anniversary event to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care at Lakeside Golf Club Garthmyl, despite torrential rain the day proved a success with over £1,100 being raised for Marie Curie. The 2014 event raised £2,000 for Marie Curie. The after dinner entertainment was provided by snooker star Dennis Taylor, Comedians Tucker Chancer & Stan Boardman, singer Paul Dark, compere was Ala Cra.

The 2015 event will take place again at the Lakeside on Sunday 13th September which will be raising funds for both Marie Curie & The Bob Champion Cancer Trust.
